Manage the work and lead the people… Get organized: More at: www.LeeCockerell.com

 Good Day, Everyone:

I hope you all are having fun out there and learning lots of new things every single day.  Sit down every day and think about what you learned.  Maybe you should keep a journal and just write down a few things that you have learned.

Writing down your thoughts helps you remember them and helps you clarify in your mind how you will call on new information and use it in the future. The more I write, the more I can recall and use it when I need it.

It’s the same with time management.  Every morning I go into my office at 6:15 a.m., and the first thing I do is plan my week and think about the rest of the week and month.  I make a list of things that I want to accomplish every day, and I put a priority next to each one.  They become urgent, vital, important, or low value.  I then work my way through the day attacking these items when I am between meetings.

At the end of the day, I have most of them accomplished or, at least, started.  For the items I don’t get completed, I review them the next day.  I just keep doing this day in and day out, and this routine helps me achieve all of the things that I think are my responsibility to get done, including getting my daily exercise, eating right, and getting enough sleep.

If you want to learn more about time management, either come to one of my Time Management/Life Management classes that I teach from time to time and for goodness’ sake, get organized.  To be a really great leader, you need to have a system in place to keep your promises and to do the things you say you are going to do.

Remember that credibility is a Leader’s best friend  . . . and you always thought it was your dog!

Have a great week, weekend and go out there and make a personal difference every single day.  You will sleep better if you use your talent to do good things.   . . . Lee

Thank you for this, Mr. Cockerell. When I read “Creating Magic,” I hoped you might eventually write a time management book. I’m making great efforts to get things organized. You’re writings are a huge help!

Hi Mr. Cockerell, when youre going to have a training in Miami? and second question as you were saying that everyday you wake up early, at what time you going to sleep or how many hours you try to sleep so you can wake up early and have long good day.

    sincerely

Step number one is definitely getting yourself organized and effectively managing your time. I will add that step number two to the “time management process” is doing the same for your employees. In my profession, my employees often have unpredicted requirements that occupy a portion of their day and sometimes involve the dedication of additional hours to complete the task. Since I started scheduling their tasks for each day (looking out a week in advance) and allowing time for the “unpredicted stuff”, morale shot through the roof. This technique has added predictability to their schedules and provide for some well-deserved time off when the conditions do not add unforeseeable requirements.
